A bit technical, the full report can be read on the Cyber Security firm’s website. The report about this attack states an important and interesting point saying, “[this research] shows just how far attackers will go in order to steal bitcoin from customers of one specific virtual currency exchange” To complete the breach, hackers even purchased a domain similar to Statcounter.com, instead of using statconuter.com. This makes it more difficult for developers to detect the breach and put a stop to it. Finally, the report notes how hard this hack would be for users to detect before falling victim to it. The hack swapped bitcoin addresses during the withdrawal process but only after the user hit the “Submit request” button. Thus, the switch happened fast and most likely was not even displayed for users to see.
